Joan Staley (born Joan Lynette McConchie on May 20, 1940 in Minneapolis, Minnesota) is an American actress and model. She is perhaps best known for being Playboy magazine's Playmate of the Month for its November 1958 issue. Her centerfold was photographed by Lawrence Schiller and Ron Vogel. According to The Playmate Book, she was pregnant at the time of her Playmate shoot.

Joan grew up in Los Angeles. Her parents encouraged her to learn to play the violin at a very young age. At six, she joined Peter Meremblum's Junior Symphony. This led to her first film appearance, as a child violinist in The Emperor Waltz, starring Bing Crosby and Joan Fontaine.

Her father's business took him all over Europe, and Joan went to high school in Paris. She attended Chapman College but left shortly thereafter to pursue a show business career. She worked as a back-up singer for Sam Phillips and worked as a secretary to make ends meet while she went to casting calls.

Her breakthrough came in 1958, when a photographer sent her pictures to Playboy. She posed for the magazine, and ended up becoming Miss November 1958. The executives at MGM liked her look, and cast her in a series of "cheesecake" roles in films such as Ocean's Eleven and Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Her first marriage to TV Director Chuck Staley was brief. They were married in the late 1950s and lived in Memphis, then moved to Los Angeles. They had a daughter, Sherrye, who was born in 1959. By the early 1960s, they were divorced.

In 1966 she appeared opposite Don Knotts in The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. In the same year Staley suffered a horseback riding accident; she stopped working in films after that, and concentrated on television.

Today, Joan lives with Dale in Southern California, where she is active in consumer affairs. Her granddaughter-in-law is Donna Perry, the Miss November 1994 Playmate.

Presenting more beuatiful ladies! That also belong in the top 10!

It was almost an impossible task to pick the top 10 Playmates in the history of Playboy Magazine. Here are some more of my favorite ladies. That didn't make the top 10. But should be there!

Where's Marilyn?

Yes where is Marilyn Monroe, and why isn't she in the top 10 playmates of all time? That is a good question. Well for starters Marilyn Monroe was not the first playboy playmate. Yes she was the first centerfold in the first issue that came out in December 1953. However Marilyn Monroe was called the "Sweetheart of the Month". Margie Harrison, Miss January 1954 was in fact the first Playboy Playmate.

However we can't leave Marilyn Monroe out of this blog. Marilyn was responsible for getting Playboy magazine off to a flying start. I'm sure Mr. Hugh Hefner will always be in her debt. For Marilyn's contribution for making his business venture an incredible success.

Marilyn Monroe (June 1, 1926 – Died August 4, 1962), born Norma Jeane Mortenson, but baptized Norma Jeane Baker, was an American actress, singer and model.

After spending much of her childhood in foster homes, Monroe began a career as a model, which led to a film contract in 1946. Her early roles were minor, but her performances in The Asphalt Jungle and All About Eve (both 1950) were well received. She was praised for her comedic ability in such films as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, How to Marry a Millionaire, Some Like It Hot and The Seven Year Itch, and became one of Hollywood's most popular and glamorous performers.

The typecasting of Monroe's "dumb blonde" persona limited her career prospects, so she broadened her range. She studied at the Actors Studio and formed Marilyn Monroe Productions. Her dramatic performance in William Inge's Bus Stop was hailed by critics, and she won a Golden Globe Award for her performance in Some Like it Hot.

The final years of Monroe's life were marked by illness, personal problems, and a reputation for being unreliable and difficult to work with. The circumstances of her death, from an overdose of barbiturates, have been the subject of conjecture. Though officially classified as a "probable suicide," the possibility of an accidental overdose, as well as the possibility of homicide, have not been ruled out.

In 1999, Monroe was ranked as the sixth greatest female star of all time by the American Film Institute.
